Transfer Orders: Moving Inventory Between Warehouse Locations

Transfer Orders move inventory between warehouses or locations while keeping stock records accurate across your workspace. This guide explains how to create a transfer order, ship items from the origin location, and receive them at the destination.

Step 1: Create a Transfer Order

Create a transfer order in Digit to record the inventory movement.

  1. Navigate to Inventory: From the main dashboard, go to the Inventory page.

  2. Open Transfer Orders: Click on the Transfer Orders tab.

  3. Start New Order: Click the + New transfer order button in the top-right corner.

Select Locations

Choose the locations involved in the transfer:

  • From: The warehouse where inventory is currently stored.

  • To: The destination warehouse or location.

Add Items

  1. Select the items you want to transfer (for example, raw materials such as cacao beans or cacao butter).

  2. Set Quantities: Review the available stock at the origin and enter the amount you wish to transfer in the quantity field.

Save the Order

Choose one of the following options:

  • Save – The transfer order remains in Draft status.

  • Save and set to Open – The transfer order is ready for shipment to the new location.

Step 2: Ship the Items

Once the transfer order is Open, the origin location can begin shipping.

  1. Click the three-dot menu in the top-right corner.

  2. Select Ship items.

The shipment process follows three steps: Pick, Pack, and Ship.

Pick

  1. Select an item.

  2. Enter the quantity being picked.

  3. Click Pick.

Repeat for all items.

Pack

  1. Open the Pack tab.

  2. Select or create a container (such as a box or pallet). You can also pack items as is without a container.

Ship

  1. Open the Ship tab

  2. Select the shipment status, carrier, and shipping terms.

  3. Click the Ship package to confirm the shipment.

Shipment status can be updated as the transfer progresses.

Step 3: Receive the Items

When the shipment arrives at the destination location, the inventory must be received.

  1. Locate the Order: In the destination view (via the Inventory or Receiving page), open the transfer order.

  2. Start Receiving: Click the three-dot menu and select Receive items.

Accept Items

  1. Click Accept for each item in the table.

  2. Assign Bins: Assign a specific bin location for storage at the receiving location.

  3. Click Save.

Repeat for all items in the shipment. Once all items are received, the transfer order status automatically updates to Complete.
