0:01 Today I'm going to walk you through your first production run here at Digit, from creating a bit of materials to completing a manufacturing order.

0:08 In this video, I'll show you how to set up a bump, add routing steps to your operations, create a manufacturing order, pick materials, start running complete work orders. 0:18 The first thing we want to do is head on over the items page on the left side panel, on the operations.

0:26 And in here, we're going to look for the item that we want to produce. For today's example, we're a small chocolate company that's going to be making lavender chocolate bars.

0:37 We find those here, and we click on them. After that, we head on over to the production step. Here in the production tab, you'll be able to find relevant information to your production of this item, such as the bill of materials, the routing step, and the production history tab.

0:55 To create a bomb, we're going to click on create new BOM version. Once we click on that we can see that BOM version one has been added and to add items to it we click on edit BOM.

1:08 Then we click on add items to BOM and we're going to be looking for the items that we need to produce. 1:15 The chocolate bars in this instance it's going to be the chocolate base, medium roast. We're going to need a chocolate wrapper and we're going to need a chocolate label.

1:27 Once we have those selected, we can add them to the bomb. Then we need to introduce the quantity we're going to need in order to produce one piece, and we click on Save. 1:49 Now that our bill of materials has been successfully set up, we can go ahead and add routing steps to our operations.

1:54 To do this, we go to the routing step here on the right, quickly connected routing and we're going to select routing operations and you're going to be taken to a window with all the available operations on your enterprise.

2:09 You can create a new operation from within this window, give it a name, assign a work center to it, assign equipment and tools, add configurations, set the status as active or archive, set default operators for the people who are to be in charge of the operation, set up default setup time and set up 2:29 default runtime. For the operations to make the chocolate bar, we're going to need to temper it, we're going to need to cool it, we're going to need to mold it, and we're going to need to liquefy it.

2:44 We're not going to be roasting anything, so I'll be deselecting that one. Now we're going to add the operations and the operations have been added but they have not been added in order but don't worry we can fix that they could if I should be the first one then we need to temper the chocolate then we 3:05 need to move it to a mold then we need to let it cool down but wait a minute we're missing one operation because we need to wrap the bars so we select wrap.

3:16 We add the operation and our operations are set up so we click on save and now our routing operations have been set.

3:28 Now the digit knows the steps needed for the operations to run, we can head on over the manufacturing order space to create our first demo and to run our first production run a digit. 3:39 To do this, we navigate on the left side panel, and we click on manufacturing orders, then we click on create a mo here on the top right corner, and we'll look for the item that we'll be producing.

3:51 For this example, we'll be producing a lavender chocolate bar, so we select the item, and then we add the item. 4:02 Now that the item has been added, we input a target quantity we're gonna be making. For today's example, we'll be making 25 pieces of chocolate or 25 chocolate bars, so we click on save.

4:17 Once we have clicked on save, we can see that the manufacturing order has been successfully created. To get things up and running, we need to pick the raw materials that we're going to need in order to produce this item.

4:29 To do this, we can see that we have the materials stable over here and we can click on pick and it'll show you the quantity that you need to pick and the available inventory for this item. 4:44 We can see that we have enough inventory and we input the quantity that we need to pick and we click on pick. 4:54 Now we can see that 1.25 kilograms of 1.25 kilograms have been successfully picked and we do the same for the next items.

5:04 We click on pick, we input the quantity that we need, and do the same for the last item. Now that we have picked our raw material, we're ready to start working on our work orders.

5:28 After picking all the raw material that we need in order to produce our chocolate bars, we can start our operations.

5:34 Under work orders, we can see the first operation is liquefy, so we click on the work order and we click on start job. 5:44 Now because we're built in everything together, we're going to say that we are going to liquefy 25 pieces and we make the batch and now we can see that the quantity for this work order has been completed so we can stop the job and we can complete the work order.

6:01 Now we can move on to the next step of our operations that is tempering the chocolate so we click on the work order. 6:11 And because this is as well as hitting a heating process, we can temper the 25 pieces at the same time and we make a batch.

6:23 Don't forget to start your job. Then once the job has been completed, you can complete the work order and move on to the next step of your operation. 6:37 Now we need to mold the hot chocolate into the molds and we start the job and let's say that we first mold 10 pieces.

6:56 So we make that batch while the other 15 pieces are getting molded. You can head on over to the cool operation to let the first 10 pieces that we just made cool so that you can simultaneously be running multiple operations at the same time.

7:25 And we're going to finish molding our pieces so that we can let them all cool. We make the last batch and we can see that the quantity is completed. 7:34 it.

We stop the job and we complete our work order. Now we can head on back to the cooling process and we get at the last 15 pieces and we make the batch. 7:53 Quantity has been completed. We can stop the job and complete our work order. Now we're just missing the finishing step of our operation, this wrap in the chocolate bars, and let's say we first wrapped 10 pieces, We didn't wrap another 10 and we wrapped the last 5.

8:32 Now we can see that the quantity has been completed. We stopped the job and we complete the work order. Now that the work order has been completed, we can head back over to the manufacturing order and we can see that the manufacturing order has been completed as well as all the operations and work orders 8:51 have been successfully completed. Finally, you want to check the inventory that you just produced. There are two ways that you can go about this.

9:01 The first one is to navigate to the inventory page on the left side panel. Go to the item that you just produced.

9:15 In this instance, the chocolate bars are being saved on our main warehouse. And we can see that in stock, we have 50 pieces.

9:22 For a more detailed record of the production history, we can navigate into the items page, go into the production step, and we can find the relevant information.

9:36 We have produced 75 pieces. We were expecting 50 pieces from production and we can also find the average cost. Here on production history, you can see that from our most recent manufacturing order, our target quantity was 25 chocolate bars and our output quantity was that of 25 chocolate bars and that 9:57 is how you can check your inventory.

Step 1: Setting up the Bill of Materials (BOM)

The Bill of Materials (BOM) is the recipe for your finished product; it defines the raw materials and components needed to manufacture one unit.

  1. Navigate to Items: From the left side panel, go to Operations > Items.

  2. Select Your Product: Search for and click on the final item you want to produce (e.g., "Lavender Chocolate Bar").

  3. Go to Production Tab: Click the Production tab on the item detail screen.

  4. Create a New BOM: Click Create new BOM version and then Edit BOM.

  5. Add Components: Click Add items to BOM and select all the raw materials needed (e.g., chocolate base, wrapper, label).

  6. Set Quantity: Input the quantity of each component required to produce one finished item. Click Save.

Step 2: Defining the Routing Steps

Routing refers to the sequence of operations or steps required to transform your raw materials into the finished product.

  1. Go to the Routings Tab: In the Production tab, click the Routings sub-tab.

  2. Edit Routing Operations: Click on Edit Routing, and then select Routing Operations.

  3. Select/Create Operations: Choose the necessary operations from the available list (e.g., Liquefy, Temper, Mold, Cool, Wrap). You can also create a new operation from this window.

  4. Arrange the Order: Drag and drop the operations into the correct sequential order for your production process (e.g., Liquefy should come before Temper).

  5. Save: Click Save to set up your production routing.

Step 3: Creating a Manufacturing Order (MO)

The Manufacturing Order (MO) is the official request to the system to produce a specific quantity of an item using its associated BOM and Routing.

  1. Navigate to Manufacturing Orders: On the left side panel, go to Planning > Manufacturing Orders.

  2. Create New MO: Click Create MO in the top right corner.

  3. Select Item: Find and select the item you are producing.

  4. Set Target Quantity: Input the Target Quantity (the number of finished units you intend to make). For the chocolate bar example, this is 25 pieces.

  5. Save: Click Save to finalize the MO creation.

Step 4: Picking the Raw Materials

Before production can start, the necessary raw materials that were defined in the BOM must be "picked" from inventory to ensure the system tracks where they are being used.

  1. Locate Materials Table: On your new MO, find the Materials table.

  2. Pick Materials: For each item listed, click Pick.

  3. Confirm Quantity: A window will show the required quantity and your available inventory. Input the exact quantity you need to pick.

  4. Complete Pick: Click Pick to move the materials to the production area. Repeat this for all listed materials.

Step 5: Starting and Completing Work Orders

Each step defined in your Routing now appears as a Work Order under the MO. Completing these moves the product through the production pipeline.

  1. Start the First Work Order: In the Work Orders section, click on the first operation (e.g., Liquefy).

  2. Start Job: Click Start job.

  3. Make a Batch: Enter the quantity you are processing in this run (e.g., 25 pieces) and click Make the batch. This completes the quantity for that work order.

  4. Stop Job & Complete Work Order: Click Stop the job and then Complete the work order to finalize that step.

  5. Proceed Sequentially: Continue this process for every subsequent work order (Temper, Mold, Cool, Wrap).

📘Pro-Tip: You can run operations simultaneously! For example, once the first 10 pieces are molded, you can start the Cool operation for those pieces while the remaining 15 are still being molded.

Step 6: Checking Inventory

Once the final work order is complete, the Manufacturing Order is also completed, and the finished product is added to your inventory.

  1. Check MO Status: Return to the Manufacturing Order screen to confirm its status is Completed.

  2. View Inventory: Navigate to Operations > Inventory to see the finished items in stock at your warehouse location.

  3. Review Production History: For a detailed record of the cost and output, go back to the Item page, click the Production tab, and review the Production History.

Navigate to the Items page from within the Warehouse tab.

Open the product record by selecting the item you want to review.

Go to the Production tab to view manufacturing details for the selected item.

Open the Production History section to see all manufacturing orders tied to this product.

Locate the relevant production run and review the target and output quantities produced.

You've successfully completed your first production run in Digit! Your production data is now reliable and ready for strategic decision-making.
