Accounts: Auto-Filling Contacts on Vendor and Customer Selection

Learn how Digit automatically fills in the contact field when a vendor or customer account has only one contact on file, and where this applies across the platform.

How it works

When you select a vendor or customer account on a purchase order, sales order, or quote, Digit checks how many contacts are saved on that account.

  • One contact on file: Digit automatically fills in the contact field with that contact.

  • More than one contact on file: the contact field opens a dropdown listing every contact saved on that account, so you can pick the right one.

Example: account with one contact

The vendor Chocolatier has one saved contact, Jake Cacaoson.

When you select Chocolatier as the vendor on a new purchase order, Digit automatically fills in the Contact field with Jake Cacaoson, since he is the only contact on the account.

Adding a new contact from the dropdown

If the contact you need is not on the account yet, select + New contact from the same dropdown.

The Update contact modal opens with Select company already filled in with the account you had selected, so you only need to fill in the new contact’s details.

📘 Digit Tip: You can change the contact at any time. Use the contact dropdown to select a different one, or add a new contact directly from the dropdown without leaving the page.

Contact field now filled in automatically

Whether an account has one contact or several, Digit gets you to the right contact faster, either by filling it in automatically or by surfacing every option (and a way to add a new one) right from the dropdown.
